What Is Mental Health Coaching?

Mental health coaching is a practical, forward-focused approach to understanding what’s going on in your life and making meaningful changes.

It’s designed to help you identify patterns in your thinking and behaviour, understand what’s keeping you stuck, and begin to move forward with clarity and direction.

Rather than staying purely in the past, coaching focuses on what’s happening now—and what can be changed.

Coaching vs Counselling: What’s the Difference?

There is often some confusion between coaching and counselling.

Counselling tends to explore past experiences in depth, helping individuals process emotions, trauma, and long-standing difficulties. It can be an essential space for healing and understanding.

Coaching, on the other hand, is more structured and action-focused. While it still recognises patterns and emotional responses, the emphasis is on:

  • clarity

  • practical tools

  • forward movement

Coaching is not a replacement for therapy, but it can be a powerful way to create change once you’re ready to take steps forward.

How Coaching Can Help

Many people find themselves stuck in repeated patterns—whether that’s overthinking, anxiety, relationship difficulties, or behaviours that don’t align with the life they want.

Coaching helps by:

  • breaking down what’s happening in a clear, understandable way

  • identifying unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours

  • introducing practical strategies to shift those patterns

  • supporting you to take consistent steps forward

It’s not about quick fixes. It’s about building awareness and making changes that last.

My Approach

My work is grounded in over 15 years of experience in counselling and psychotherapy, with more than 5,000 hours of client work.

I take a straightforward, practical approach—drawing on cognitive and behavioural tools, alongside mindfulness and structured techniques that can be applied in everyday life.

There’s no one-size-fits-all method. The work is collaborative and tailored to what you need.

Taking the First Step

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start, reaching out is often the hardest part.

Coaching offers a space to make sense of what’s going on and begin to move forward in a clear, structured way.

If you’d like to find out more or arrange your first session, feel free to get in touch via email or phone.

This could be the first step towards meaningful change.
